Power Adventures is dedicated to making adventure in the outdoors accessible, safe, and fun for everyone.  We're proud to offer practical clinics to learn basic outdoor skills and knowledge.  Each season will feature new topics and clinics relevant to working or playing outdoors.  Hope to see you there!

 

Registration: Call us at 815-991-5684 or email info@poweradventures.org to reserve your spot for any of the clinics below.  Walk-ins are welcome, unless otherwise posted. If you have a group of 10 or more, we also offer private clinics on alternative dates.

 

Quickstart Your Canoe - An Intro to Paddling

Increase your confidence on the water in a canoe with this introduction to paddling course. Our ACA-certified (American Canoe Association) staff will present the basics of boat control, what to wear, potential hazards, and simple rescue techniques. We offer practical knowledge and a chance to practice on the water, allowing you to effectively and safely maneuver a tandem canoe on flat-water. Perfect for summer camp staff, scouts, and families. (While designed as a stand-alone course, the interested paddler can progress to more advanced levels of instruction through ACA curriculum.)

 

Location: Sycamore, IL

Time: 3 hours (9-12pm)

Level: Beginner (No paddling experience necessary!)

Practical Knots & Rope Skills

Interested in learning tips and techniques to help tie that Christmas tree to the top of your car? How about your canoe or kayak? Spend the evening learning practical knots and you will leave with useful skills to last a lifetime. This hands-on clinic provides you with the necessary knot and rope skills for a wide range of uses: projects around the house, camping, securing gear to a vehicle or trailer, fishing, boating, or earning a merit badge. Do knot miss it!

Midwest Camping Essentials

Looking to feel more confident & comfortable in the outdoors? Join us for an introduction to camping basics; learn what to bring, what to wear, and where to go for your first camping trip. This hands-on and practical workshop will give you the confidence to take your family & friends car camping, and how to keep everyone comfortable and having fun.

Cold-Weather Survival Skills

Be prepared for the cold this winter - learn how to stay warm, dry, and safe when outdoors. This clinic will examine the body's cold-response system and ways to stay comfortable during various activities, whether you're sitting in an ice-fishing shelter, working outside, skiing, winter camping, waiting for the school bus, or sledding. You'll learn how your body works, ways to prevent hypothermia and frostbite, and valuable tips for cold-weather survival. As the saying goes, "There's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing."
